Meals Over the Summer

At the current time, ECS does not have plans to distribute meals over the summer, but that could change, so we encourage families to check back here if you are in need of meals for children during the summer.

In the meantime, there are a number of organizations that can assist with obtaining nutritious food.  If you need assistance, regardless of income, we encourage you to reach out for help.

Organizations that stand ready to help:

The Community Food Pantry at the United Church of Ellicottville

    51 Elizabeth Street

    Ellicottville, NY

    The Great Valley Food Pantry

    Great Valley Town Hall

    4808 Route 219

    Great Valley, NY

    Cattaraugus Community Action

Distribution sites located throughout the county.

You can apply also for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) to help buy food for your family, especially if you’ve lost income: https://www.ny.gov/services/apply-snap.

    Greetings ECS Community,

The District is busy planning an outdoor in-person graduation ceremony on Friday, June 26th to celebrate the success and achievements of the members of the Class of 2020! While this year’s ceremony will look different and attendance will be limited to graduates and members of their household via invitations (due to COVID-19 and guidance from the State), we are excited to be able to honor our seniors with such an event!

More information about the ceremony will be sent to seniors and their families early the week of June 15th.

On the morning of Saturday, June 27th, the seniors will participate in a parade through parts of the District. This will allow members of the community to come out and show their support for the ECS Graduates of 2020! More information regarding times and the parade route will be released in the near future.

    CENSUS 2020:

If you have not yet had a chance to complete the 2020 Census, please consider doing so right away.  The census is used to make decisions regarding geographic areas, municipalities and schools.  If our area / school is under-reported or not counted it can impact things such as how much financial aid the school receives, allocation of funds to municipalities, etc.  You can complete the census survey on-line in about 5 to 10 minutes.  Thank you!

    Homework Delivery / Pick-up Plan

    • Parents will be made aware of delivery dates and times via a robo-call from the school.
    • We will be making the deliveries with school busses.
    • Deliveries will be made to the permanent residence of students that live in the District regardless of whether the student normally rides the bus. We do not have the ability to deliver to other locations.
    • Drivers will follow their normal routes.
    • Please be on the lookout so that the bus can stop and deliver your family’s package. A packet will not be left unless you are in the driveway or otherwise make visual contact with the driver.
    • If you live down a narrow road or a long private driveway please wait in your car by the main road.
    • As the bus approaches your house, please stay at least 20 feet back from the road.
    • We will open the door, verify the family name and then set your packet on the ground in the driveway.
    • We will also set a container on the ground in which you will place the homework / memory sticks that need to be returned to the school.
    • Please wait for the deliverer to step back before proceeding to your packet / dropping off your work.

If you are a non-resident family, we are setting up 3 pick-up locations:

    • West Valley, Franklinville and Pioneer students’ pick will be in the Ellicottville BOCES Parking Lot from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM.
    • Salamanca students’ pick-up will be the Green Gables parking lot from 2:30 PM -4:00 PM.
    • Cattaraugus / Little Valley and students from all other districts can pick up items at the Elementary Entrance from 1:00 PM– 3:00 PM.
    • For families picking up packets, we ask that only one person proceed towards the bus or entrance at a time. When you are about 20 feet away from the bus, the driver will ask your name and get your packet.
    • Please wait for the driver to get back on the bus before picking up your packet.
    • Please stay in your car until it is your turn to pick up your packet.
    • For safety and security reasons, each family may only pick up their package.
    • There will also be a container on the ground at each location in which you will place the homework / memory sticks that need to be returned to the school.

    Thoughts on re-opening schools:

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that New York school facilities will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year.  The Governor will make a decision about summer school by the end of May. As we look to the future, we must think about what a return to school buildings might look like and how best to support students, families and staff.

We know that we are stronger together. We need all voices to be heard on this important matter.  Please participate in a statewide virtual conversation about reopening schools. You will be able to read and rate other participants' responses. Based on those ratings, the most important thoughts will rise to the top. All contributions are anonymous.

This is a statewide exchange facilitated by the 37 New York BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Educational Services). The exchange results will be shared with our elected officials so that they will have a more global understanding of the thoughts and ideas our community members have about returning to in-person schooling.

I encourage everyone to use the link below to share your thoughts and help evaluate the critical issues. If English is not your first language, there is a translation feature.
