Blue Ribbon Commission

Dear ECS Community,

New York State's Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures was established in November 2019 to review and recommend changes to the state's high school diploma requirements.

The Commission's work was driven by the need to address disparities in educational outcomes, ensure equity, and provide multiple pathways for students to demonstrate their readiness for graduation. The traditional reliance on standardized testing, particularly the Regents Exams, was scrutinized, with the recognition that a one-size-fits-all approach might not serve all students well, particularly those from marginalized communities.

The Commission's recommendations, expected to lead to significant changes in diploma requirements, focus on a more holistic approach to assessing student readiness. The Commission's work reflects a broader shift in education towards personalized learning and equity.

You are invited to attend to hear these recommendations and provide your feedback. We know that some of you are parents and caregivers to students, may be educators, or community members who are interested in the education of students in New York.  Your voice and perspective are valued in these conversations, and we invite you to participate.
